CooperRiis is a specialized residential therapeutic and rehabilitative healing farm community in beautiful Western North Carolina where individuals with mental illness and emotional distress learn new ways to improve functioning, gain independence and attain fulfillment in life through a comprehensive program that addresses mind, body and spirit.

The CooperRiis program incorporates individual psychotherapy, group therapy, family support and education, wellness counseling, psychoeducation and ongoing psychiatric evaluation and medication monitoring. This is supplemented by Arts & Recreation, Work Training, as well as a Graduate program. The clinical team includes members licensed in Psychiatry and Psychology, as well as a Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Social Worker. Mecklenburg Open Door, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) community agency providing opportunities for people with special needs to grow and learn, to choose their own paths and to receive the assistance they need to shape their own futures.

Services include licensed group homes, supervised apartments and private condominiums for individuals who have severe and persistent mental illness. Mecklenburg Open Door, Inc. also provides administrative services for Shelter Plus Care, a rental assistance program for persons with disabilities who are at risk for being homeless.

In 1997, the agency assumed the operation of supported employment services of Mecklenburg County Area Mental Health. Since that time, the Mecklenburg Open Door Supported Employment division has grown to be the second largest provider of employment services in Mecklenburg County.

Mecklenburg Open Door follows the RECOVERY MODEL for treatment of adult mental illness.
