The Consumer Organization & Networking Technical
Assistance Center (CONTAC) is a resource center for consumers and
consumer–run organizations across the United States. Available services
and products include informational materials; on-site training and
skill–building curricula; electronic and other communication capabilities;
networking and customized activities promoting self–help, recovery,
leadership, business management, and empowerment.
The Child & Adolescent Bipolar Foundationsm
(CABF) is a parent–led, not–for–profit, Web–based
membership organization of families raising children diagnosed with, or at risk
for, early–onset bipolar disorder.
The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA),
is a support group for individuals affected by any feeling or mood disorder or mental illness.
It is open to individuals who suspect that they have, or have been diagnosed with, any of
these conditions as well as professionals or students who want to learn more about mental illness.
The group focuses primarily on depression, anxiety and bipolar disorder.
It started out back in 1987 as a group only for folks with bi-polar disorders and has grown ever since.
Please remember that these are peer-run support groups, not therapy groups.
They even have a member who plans social activities for the group.
Feel free to drop in on any meeting--no reservations are needed.
The National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia
and Depression (NARSAD) is the largest donor–supported
organization in the world devoted exclusively to funding scientific research on
psychiatric brain disorders. NARSAD is a private, not–for–profit
public charity 501(c)(3) organized for the purpose of raising and
distributing funds for scientific research into the causes, cures, treatments
and prevention of severe psychiatric brain disorders, such as schizophrenia and
depression.
The Mental Health Assocation (MHA) is the
country's oldest and largest nonprofit organization addressing all aspects of
mental health and mental illness. With more than 340 affiliates nationwide,
NMHA works to improve the mental health of all Americans, especially the 54
million people with mental disorders, through advocacy, education, research and
service.
The National Mental Health Association's National
Consumer Supporter Technical Assistance Center (NCSTAC) was established
in 1998 by a grant from the Center for Mental Health Services. Its purpose is
to strengthen those organizations supporting mental health consumers, survivors
and ex–patients by providing technical assistance in the forms of
research, informational materials, and financial aid.
The National Empowerment Center is a
consumer/survivor/expatient–run organization whose members live a personal
journey of recovery and empowerment, and is a place for those diagnosed with
mental illness to turn to in order to receive the information they might need
in order to regain control over their lives and the resources that affect their
lives.
The National Mental Health Consumers' Self-Help
Clearinghouse is a consumer–run national technical assistance
center serving the mental health consumer movement which helps connect
individuals to self–help and advocacy resources, and offers expertise to
self–help groups and other peer–run services for mental health
consumers.
